This workshop will begin with a brief walkthrough of WONDER, focusing on staged photographs by Sage Szkabarnicki-Stuart.

Shooting self-portraits on a tripod offers a unique set of limitations, but also opens up new possibilities. During the workshop, we combine this technique with lessons in designing sets, costuming, and lighting. Participants are encouraged to bring costume pieces or small props to incorporate in photoshoots. The workshop ends with a Q&A about any ideas or questions about putting together props, costumes, and photographic composition.

This workshop encourages creative exploration and skill-building, allowing participants to tap into their creative potential and personal expression. While this workshop is open to all levels, having basic photography skills is helpful. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Sage Szkabarnicki-Stuart is an artist based in rural Ontario who works in photography. She captures self-portraits in intriguing settings that she has created. A self-described hermit, Szkabarnicki-Stuart struggles with human relationships and often includes animals in her compositions. In a search for meaning in the mundanities of everyday life, she offers a short fairy tale with each of her works, which are influenced and informed by her personal experiences.

* Please bring your cellphone or a DSLR camera (if you have one) and any costumes/props you wish to use in your photos. You're welcome to bring a tripod if you have one (please let us know if you can bring one!) – if not, we will provide tripods. *
