Koffler Arts is pleased to partner with Jewish Music Week to present a screening of The Lost Music of Auschwitz at the Bernard Betel Centre.
This fascinating documentary film tells the story of British composer Leo Geyer’s eight-year mission to piece together a treasure-trove of forgotten fragments of music manuscripts found in the archives of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum. There were at least six orchestras in Auschwitz, comprised of prisoners from the camp. Before Geyer’s research, little was known about the music they might have played. Follow Leo on this musical journey as he discovers how the musicians rebelled with secret performances, weaving forbidden melodies into concerts. The documentary includes powerful interviews with some of the last remaining survivors and special performances from Leo’s orchestra.
