The Best Place on Earth: In Conversation with Ayelet Tsabari

Ayelet Tsabari, author of The Best Place on Earth, reads from her book and speaks of writing about the Israel rarely seen in the news.

By giving voice to characters who are mainly young, Mizrahi and secular, while also depicting their universal struggles, Tsabari grants readers an intimate look at Israel’s vibrant and multi-layered society. Tsabari will share some of the challenges she faced writing about her homeland in her second language. The conversation will be followed by a Q&A. Books will be available for sale.

Ayelet Tsabari was born and raised in Israel and now lives in Toronto. She is the author of the short story collection The Best Place on Earth (HarperCollins), which was nominated for the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award. In 2013, Ayelet was named as one of ten Canadian writers to watch by CBC Books, and in 2014 she was awarded a Chalmers Arts Fellowship. Her nonfiction has won a National Magazine Award and a Western Magazine Award and she is a two-time winner of Event’s Creative Non-Fiction Contest. A graduate of the MFA program at Guelph University, Ayelet teaches creative writing through the University of Toronto and the University of Guelph. www.ayelettsabari.com
