World Play: Reading Toronto's Many Languages
- Literary
Monday July 14 | 7 - 8:30 PM
Koffler Arts launches this new initiative, curated by Alon Nashman. World Play: Reading Toronto’s Many Languages is a series of readings that celebrate the multiplicity of cultures and languages in Toronto, where more than 200 languages are spoken!
At each evening, readers will present texts in a variety of languages unified by a common theme. The inaugural event focuses on BIRTH. With this theme in mind, invited readers will select a short excerpt from poetry, theatre, fiction, philosophy, song lyrics, or any other literature in their language of fluency.
This endeavour is not only about each writer's subjects and styles, but also an exercise in phonaesthetics – the perception of the beauty of sounds in language.
The audience will be provided with the excerpts in the original languages and English translations.
